Chelonia - Turtles public art with their rhythmic repetition andAncient, patient and beautifully patterned, sea turtles glide across this Haeckel plate with their shells rendered in intricate mosaics of brown, amber and green. Ernst Haeckel composed the sheet so that each turtle shows off the geometry of its carapace, the scutes fitting together like inlaid tile a reminder of why these animals have fascinated naturalists for centuries.
